This is the first volume in the Sten series which I read in its entirety many years ago. Without a doubt it is one of the most entertaining series available in the "space opera" genre and I would recommend it and the whole series to anyone. They gave me many hours of pleasurable reading.

LOve the whole series and have re-read them many times. Good characters, good story lines, and humor within the story.
Still just as good as when I read it last century. I have a background as a sniper and paratrooper, so I empathize with Sten. recommended highly!
Great read
Sten was a great book.I had read it many years ago.It was as good as I remembered it.The Sten series are very good books and I recommend them to any sci-fi fan who loves space operas/military.As I remember this book is a great set up for the rest of the series.
The story is one we've seen before...young man, family killed by evil so-and-so, has to make his way on his own and then returns for justice!

The book is well executed, never dull, and despite being written 30 years ago holds up very VERY well.

I'm surprised I'd never bumped into this series, but I'm sure glad I did, and plan on continuing with the second book.

I just picked this book up as an e-book, I bought it for the first time in n1982 when it came out as a paper back. I enjoyed it as much now, as I did when I first read it. The story is still good escapist science fiction. The only issues with the new e-book version is the cover and numerous typos in the text that need to be corrected.
I first read The Sten Chronicles When they were released back in the 80's. I reread them so much they fell apart. When I found the kindle versions I had to have them. I highly recommend this series for anyone who enjoys a romping good ride following the hero through all the misadventures they can have.
