Fresh, lovely, wonderful heart, and vivid characters. Tight writing. I like the use of present tense. Really pulled at several of my emotions, so I was completely in and into the story, happy to let the real world do as it would like as I read. Fun and fluid to read. It really is a fantastic book.
I bought this book for my daughter and couldn't put it down. It's a breezy, intelligently-written work of fiction with great description and dialogue of the main characters. Ruby is a delight and someone girls will root for! I read this wondering if Ruby is based on a real-life figure--I guess that will be a well-kept secret if she is! I could definitely see this as a movie that would be wildly popular with young teens. Run, don't walk, to pick up a copy of this magnificent book for any middle school or early high school young lady in your circle of family and friends!

Ruby is a story all teens can relate to but with some surprises from her unique perspective as the child of a mega celebrities. She struggles with many of the common issues but also has the added burden of determining if people are friends with her because they like her or because they want to meet her parents. She makes some brave and quick choices that she comes to wrestle with. We are also exposed to questions of where our parents fall in our lives when we are beginning to find our own voices and our own independence. The story has a great pace and captures your attention from the start. I was disappointed when it was over, as I enjoyed being in Ruby's world. However, the ending is phenomenal. This is a great choice for young teens ages 9 to 13.
Since I am not female and haven't been young in quite some time, this isn't exactly the sort of book that usually gets my attention. But (full disclosure) knowing the author, I decided to give the version a read. I loved it. More important, I knew my two youngest granddaughters would love it too, so I quickly bought two paper versions to give as gifts. Ruby's a delightful young lady who makes you want to know more about her. Granted, her privileged background isn't one that most youngsters (or even oldsters) will resonate with, but anyone who has passed through puberty will quickly recognize the problem that sets things in motion. Her surprising solution makes us a bit green with envy at first (not being a choice available to most of us), but we quickly get caught up in it, and it just keeps getting better. What follows is a wonderful ride that all readers will enjoy. What makes it gift-worthy for us old fogies is that all youngsters will will learn valuable lessons from the choices Ruby makes along the way, especially the few bad ones. After all, without some bad choices, there'd be no story worth writing (or reading). I am eagerly awaiting more. The young among Ronni's new fans (and there will be many) will want more in the same vein, of course. As for me, I am hoping we all get to experience Ruby as she grows up.
Ruby is the daughter of two mega-celebrities. The kind of celebrities even tweens know about. While that might seem like a cool life to lead, we learn through Ruby's story that it can royally suck. You see, when your parents are famous, people befriend you just so they can meet them. After learning her best friend is just pretending, Ruby arranges to be transferred across the country, where she tells everyone her parents are dead. We get to then watch Ruby emerge from her cocoon as for the first time, people let her know she is both talented and a great friend. Not only does this book have the perfect message for young girls, but it's a super-fun read!
