Exordium of Tears The IX Series Book 2 eBook Andrew P Weston Janet Morris
With the Horde threat on their doorstep defeated, the iconic warriors of Earth’s past have settled into their new lives on the alien planet of Arden. Unfortunately their peace isn’t meant to last, for Arden’s leaders soon find cause to bring the war to the distant Horde occupying the remnants of the former Ardenese galactic empire. As in the first installment of the IX series, the pace of much of the story is slow and procedural. If you enjoy lengthy discussions of military tactics, strategies, and capabilities, you’ll love this book! The action ramps up in the final third of the tale, delivering spectacular ambushes, world-crushing artillery, star-swallowing black holes, and lots of flashy high-tech weaponry.
The narrative follows an extremely wide cast of characters, from Ardenese politicians to reformed Kresh (former Horde) to leaders from the among the human warriors of each time period conscripted to fight in Arden’s defense. This tactic allows the reader to follow the action much as you would watch a game of chess. Although I didn’t feel like I really got to know most of the protagonists, returning readers will probably recognize that it’s best not to get too attached to your favorite characters.
While Exordium of Tears is an entertaining read for fans of military science fiction, it feels less polished than the previous book in the series. The ending left me with quite a few questions and a hollow feeling of having lost more than I’d gained. It will be interesting to see whether the final book sets right what Exordium left hanging.

Exordium of Tears The IX Series Book 2 eBook Andrew P Weston Janet Morris Reviews
A fan of the first book 'The IX' of this fabulous series, I was excited to lay my hands on 'Exordium', excited that it came out at long last.
Oh what can I say? Another great read doesn't come close to describing my reading experience. Like the description said "death is only the beginning of the adventure" that starts the story of warriors who settled their new home planned, wishing to rise their families in peace. Too much to hope for with the inhuman Horde still lurking on the outskirts, waiting for its chance. Apparently not all of those foes joined the original battle. Far from it! "As worlds are sundered, suns destroyed, and star systems obliterated, a universal conflict proves again..." that no peace could be achieved without the need to fight for it unless the other side is prepared to listen and talk. Not the case in the Exordium colonies.
This brilliant work is a mix of fantasy and history, science fiction and drama, breathtakingly realistic warring scenes and action-adventure aplenty. It covers every aspect and provides a wonderful study on human nature, it educates while entertain, it offers a realistic and epic ride that rivals every classic and actual historical happening. I simply couldn't put this book down!
good
A story of sacrifice and courage as well as growth and love. At points it got a bit too esoteric but overall a good read.
A new Horde menace arises. The IX and their allies rise to meet it. I'd love to see this series on the screen!
I own Exordium of Tears in it's lush paperback, but recently bought the ebook to peruse while waiting in carpool lines, as there is so much to this second book, I want to make sure I'm absorbing it all. Exordium of Tears is part historical legend, part science fiction, part metaphysical fantasy, and completely intriguing. This sequel to The IX , Andrew P. Weston's #1 bestseller, follows the lost ninth legion of Rome, American cavalry and Indians, 21st century special forces, all drafted to fight in a future where an alien force tries to destroy civilization.
Needless to say, Exordium of Tears is impeccably written and edited. For serious readers who love being taken away, educated, and entertained in brilliant style, this is choice reading.
While I really enjoyed the first book, I must say that this book shouldn't have been written. Sometimes it is better to leave a work as an stand alone book. This is one of those instances. While the plot of a surviving stronger foe makes sense. Having Houston become a part of it doesn't. While the first book had a very good character development, this one lacks of it in favor of more action. Again, very disappointing.
